PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES

The Luis Vives Chair

The Juan Luis Vives Chair aims to fill a necessary space to disseminate to students, their families, teachers, and the general public, little-known or poorly publicized topics about the historical relationship between Spain and Cuba.

The Juan Luis Vives Chair aims to fill a necessary space to disseminate to students, their families, teachers, and the general public, little-known or poorly publicized topics about the historical relationship between Spain and Cuba.

It is neither a fortuitous accident nor for the sake of elegance that the Chair is baptized with the name of one of the most prominent scholars (philosopher, psychologist, and precursor of modern pedagogy) of the 16th century in Spain. He and his family were victims of the horrors of inquisitorial intolerance.

In the over 35 years since the CEEH was established, the profound relationship between Spain and Cuba has not been addressed with the passion and academic interest it deserves. Students leave the island with almost total ignorance of the realities of the island, for reasons that can range from disinterest to undervaluation.

A bond with over 400 years

A direct link of more than 400 years is not to be overlooked for decades in different areas in Spain and Cuba.

From 1492 until noon on January 1, 1899, Spain was the administrative power of the island, and its imprint is palpable not only in these four centuries but also to this day, that love-hate relationship is present on both shores.

Answering Questions

We are driven by a question: Why hasn't this relationship been explored more deeply, with its lights and shadows? Is it neglect or an intentional purpose on both sides?

There are controversial topics, filled with enough passion to investigate them and shed light on debates: the inflexible position of the metropolitan authorities in granting political rights to the descendants of peninsular who inhabited the island; the tragic and prejudiced issue of maintaining slavery in Cuba until 1886, only surpassed by the Empire of Brazil; among others that motivate interest in research and promotion.

Specifically, regarding the issue of slavery, it is worth noting that since the third decade of the 19th century, the peninsular governments were perfectly aware that it was an obstacle to propel the island, and therefore Spain, into the locomotive of the Industrial Revolution. Not only was a slave production regime maintained, but also the slave trade itself.

The first war of independence in Cuba, which began scarcely a month after the Glorious Revolution that ended the reign of Isabel II, extended for ten years due to various factors.

The previous questions must be answered within the logic of the reality of that moment.

The reasons why the program for Cuba designed by the politicians of the Bourbon restoration, after the peace of 1878, did not prosper, including granting autonomy to the island or the status of a province as requested by Creole reformists since the early decades of the 19th century.

The Chair not only aims to provide a theoretical framework but also to provide materials that can be thematically incorporated to reinforce current study programs.

This includes digitally implementing (audiovisual) conferences, creating questionnaires to verify the information of CEEH students and IES students, and promoting titles edited by both countries that address the topics and pique the curiosity or desire of the public.

Considering that the genesis of the Spanish footprint in Cuba has not been sufficiently addressed or deeply explored with the required rigor, this is our main purpose. The Chair not only aims to provide a theoretical framework but also to provide materials that can be thematically incorporated to reinforce current study programs.

The speaker addresses three fundamental themes: the situation of the island since the introduction of the steam engine in sugar production, the involvement of the English and Americans in the Cuban economy since the second half of the 19th century, and finally, the consequences of the official abolition of slavery in 1886.

Conference 2 2. Political and Social Evolution of Cuba in the XIX Century. Part II (from 1886 to 1898).

A proposal to continue delving into little-discussed topics about the historical relationship between Spain and Cuba during the period of 1886-1898.

Eco-School

ecoescuela

The knowledge, awareness, and respect for the care of the natural environment are one of our pillars in the formation of values for students at CEEH. The daily action in environmental projects has reshaped our concept of Eco-School, constituting a project of great impact throughout the school.

This idea stems from the need to implement and involve the entire educational community, especially our students, in different actions that promote respect and care for the environment, sustainable development, and the daily application of the three Rs rule (reduce, reuse, recycle) in the school and social environment in which they operate.

Among the most significant activities, internal workshops are conducted along with external entities in the environment, scientific conferences with projects having a significant impact on the environment, environmental extracurricular activities, establishment of clean points for the collection and sorting of materials such as glass, paper and cardboard, metal and plastic containers in coordination with accredited associations for their recycling.

One of the most cherished achievements of the school is the eco-gardens, our green corners, materialized thanks to the daily effort of our students and teachers. This space provides endless opportunities for hands-on learning and curriculum-based experimental work. Additionally, it promotes values such as ecological and sustainable cultivation, teamwork, and environmental awareness.

Students from different levels take care of the eco-garden.

School Cafeteria

We are pleased to inform you that we have implemented a new school cafeteria service at CEEH, which debuted with great success during the Summer Course! We are excited to offer this option to all interested families.

This project arises from the collaboration between the Board of Directors and the General Directorate, taking into account two fundamental aspects: promoting healthy eating and ensuring maximum hygiene in the handling, preparation, and transportation of food. To ensure the peace of mind of families and CEEH, we have the supervision of certified external experts, who guarantee compliance with the highest standards at all times.

To properly prepare the kitchen for the upcoming school year, we need to have an estimate of the number of students who will opt for this service. Therefore, we ask you to complete a pre-registration, which will be confirmed once you make the corresponding payment at the secretary's office, covering the total cost of the cafeteria per trimester.

We hope to count on your participation and trust that this service will contribute to the well-being and integral development of our students!

School Camp

At CEEH, we are committed to the full and comprehensive development of our students in all our activities. Creating flexible, dynamic, and enjoyable environments that combine leisure and learning is fundamental to our vision of lifelong education.

Our summer camp, an annual tradition at our school, provides the perfect setting for students to have fun and learn simultaneously. This program offers the opportunity to interact with the environment, explore new sports, participate in artistic activities, and engage in research. Additionally, it includes visits to places of interest in the city, all within a natural environment that encourages relaxation and socialization.

We are confident that our summer camp will provide participants with an enriching and memorable experience, where they can develop skills, create bonds, and enjoy unforgettable moments.

Prepare for a bright future with our private baccalaureate in Cuba.
